Katelyn was born in 1991 and raised in Reading all her life. She attended the Reading Baptist Day School, Birch Meadow Elementary, Coolidge Middle School and Reading Memorial High School class of 2010. She was an Honor student and three sport, four year varsity athlete and two sport Captain who loved everything about sports. She played soccer, lacrosse and hockey at RMHS. Her passion was lacrosse. She was a fierce competitor and cherished her RMHS teammates, coaches and athletic experiences. She experienced some thrilling league championships and MIAA tournament games, which she loved. She learned so many essential life skills from her athletic and academic experiences at RMHS that helped her be so successful in college and beyond.   She was recruited to play lacrosse at Quinnipiac University and enrolled in a 6 year Occupational Therapy Program graduating in 2015 with a Masters in OT. She furthered her education at Tufts University Graduate School for the Hand and Upper Extremity Certificate Program and became a licensed Certified Hand Therapist in 2019. Katelyn worked at Excel Orthopaedic Specialists in Woburn as an OT/CHT since 2015, a career she was so passionate about. She touched the lives of so many patients and loved the reward of helping them heal. She loved her job! She also traveled to the Dominican Republic with an Excel team to treat patients in need of medical care. She worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Tufts University Graduate OT Program. She also worked per diem at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston on the brain injury floor from 2017 to 2019. She worked with patients who suffered from brain injury which she ultimately suffered herself.

Katelyn had a real passion for life. She had boundless determination with everything she did. She spent all her summers in Gloucester at her family’s summer home. Her favorite place to be, she loved the beach, boating and being with all her friends and family on the endless summer days she loved. She was passionate about fitness and running. She was an amazing snowboarder, who loved the sport and apres ski as well. She loved to travel and plan her next trip.  Her adventures took her to Iceland, Ireland, Caribbean, Park City, Nantucket and so much more. Her favorite places were the British Virgin Islands and St John’s USVI.  She loved getting her friends and family together for a day or night of great food, drinks and fun.  She had so many different groups of friends that she was always bringing together. She worked hard and played hard. She also loved cooking and baking. She had endless love and friendship with her cousin Lauren and lifelong Reading friends who she cherished dearly.

Katelyn had recently purchased her first home in Reading with her fiance Brett. They were so excited to marry in May and raise a family in Reading. Life was great then tragically on December 28, 2022 during a morning work out, Katelyn suffered a catastrophic ruptured brain aneurysm.  After a very courageous battle, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 9, 2023. There really are no words to describe how devasting her loss is to our family, her fiance, her friends and coworkers.

We want to continue her legacy and honor her by giving back to others in her name.  She touched so many lives in so many positive and fun ways. She will be forever missed. Her passion for life and her beautiful spirit and smile would light up anyone’s day!

Brain Aneurysm Foundation Run/Walk - New England

on Sunday, April 27, 2024

Castle Island,  South Boston

KATELYN's CREW helped raise money for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation founded at MGH to support and educate others on brain aneurysm awareness. The walk was to remember and honor Katelyn and support brain aneurysm awareness and research and enjoy a wonderful day in Boston with Katelyn's family and friends!

Through your support, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation ("BAF") provides support and educational materials and information to brain aneurysm patients, their families, and the medical community and to promote critical awareness of brain aneurysms which will lead to earlier detection. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is funding essential research that will promote a better understanding of why this condition happens and identify those at risk before an aneurysm rupture occurs. BAF was founded at MGH in Boston.

Please consider a donation to support the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Thank you for making a difference with your support in honor of Katelyn!

The Katelyn M. Caruso Occupational Therapy Hand and Upper Extremity Clinic

On June 5th, 2023, Excel Orthopedics Specialists in Woburn, Ma, honored Katelyn by dedicating their Occupational Therapy center naming it the Katelyn M. Caruso Occupational Therapy Hand and Upper Extremity Clinic.

Katelyn was treated for high school sports injuries at Excel Orthopedics.  This experience helped shape her interest in helping others and steered her toward a career in Occupational Therapy.  Katelyn joined Excel in 2015 as an OT after graduationg from Quinnipiac University with a masters in OT.  Katelyn went on to earn her certification in Hand Therapy becoming an OT/CHT.   She loved her patients and really made a special effort to get to know them and make them feel comfortable with an uplifting spirt and positive attitude.  Her patients loved Katelyn and her approach to rehabilitation. She helped so many on their journey to better health.  Katelyn's co workers often said "Her infectious smile lit up the clinic and her energy permeated throughout the practice".  The dedication was attended by many of her coworkers, family and friends.  The dedication speeches were uplifting, inspirational and a true testament to the dedicated therapist she was.  We will be forever grateful for this honor for her as Katelyn's legacy of helping others lives on here.  Her bright light will shine down on this clinic and their patients every day.

"Pouring One Out" for Katelyn.  There is an old tradition called “pouring one out” to remember someone we love no longer with us; before you take your first drink, you spill a drop for the one you love and lost.

Katelyn's Legacy

Katelyn left all of us a "legacy of living".  She worked hard at everything she did and accomplished and experienced more in 31 years than most do in a lifetime.  That being said, she always lived life in the moment and didn't let a day go by that she didn't enjoy life to the fullest.  Katelyn brought so many people together and she created amazing memories that we will cherish forever.   She will continue to bring us together, doing things she enjoyed most to honor her memory and giving back to others at the same time.  Katelyn, we will miss you forever.   May you rest In the sweetest of peace!
